According to educational establishments objectives for developing education system in Iraq. The University of Technology was one of this establishments that activated the e-government system and for that the Information Technology Center was established

The IT Center is the extension of two centers:

- Electronic Computer Center, founded in 1975, the year of the founding of the University.

- ICT center established in 2008

The two Centers functions have been merged to create a new established called the Information Technology Center. The purpose of merging was to unite the efforts of promote ICT status in the university and developing it towards building an integrated system to achieve the e-government initiative at the university to link it with Iraqi universities and international universities. The management of the Internet, intranet and servers at the university design and build the systems that serve university administratively and scientifically, and the maintenance management was responsible on maintenance of computers and peripherals and management of electronic education for electronic classes.

The Center also provides various training courses in order to develop the capabilities of the University's technological staff in various fields of ICT. It also organizes specialized courses for all ministries and institutions throughout the year, providing advice and cooperation with the private sector.
